Homeland Security officials released long-delayed guidelines that turn state-issued identification cards into de facto internal passports Thursday, estimating the changes will cost states and individuals $23 billion over 10 years.

More stolen data is finding its way on to underground economy servers often used by criminals and criminal gangs to sell information like social security numbers, credit cards, personal identification numbers (PINs), and e-mail address lists that are selling for as little as $1.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has published the full text of its proposed regulations on the REAL ID minimum standards for driver's licenses and identification cards to be accepted by Federal agencies in the March 8, 2007, Federal Register.

Legislation being introduced by Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn, may prevent financial institutions from offering credit cards to illegal immigrants. It’s being called the Photo Identification Security Act. Looks like common sense is still alive in government.

U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., introduced legislation Monday that would prevent illegal immigrants from receiving credit cards from American financial institutions. The Photo Identification Security Act seeks to require "secure forms of identification" in order to obtain credit. As vague as that term is, it makes me think RFID.

The Department of Homeland Security released long-delayed requirements for the standardization of state identification documents Thursday. States must start issuing the new internal passports by May 2008, or else their citizens will not be able to board planes or enter federal courthouses...
