Amazing Grace to America’s Death Row
This video is dedicated to America’s death row prisoners and their families. Our hearts & thoughts are with you & your loved ones. Amazing Grace sung by Darby Tillis, ex-Death Row Prisoner, pardoned based on innocence & Catherine Grace, ex-nun, whose brother Ed was found factually innocent based on DNA testing after being wrongfully charged with murder. This impromtu performance of Amazing Grace took place in Woodbine, GA during a Blues jam session. The baby sounds that can be heard in the background belong to Catherine’s neice Samantha, born on July 4th, 2005. The voice in the beginning belongs to her mother Margaret, saying “Come and see my Daddy” who is playing the guitar. Darby Tillis & Catherine Grace met at the National Convention of the Campaign to End the Death Penalty in Chicago in 2005. Darby introduced her brother Ed at the convention after hearing of their ordeal. Darby & Catherine Grace both actively work to abolish the death penalty in Illinois. They successfully campaigned to stop the execution of Kenneth Foster whose Texas death sentence was commuted. Ed was arrested in part on the basis of a false eyewitness identification. A witness ID’d Ed in a photo line-up in 2003 for a murder that happened in 1982. Catherine Grace testified in April 2007 before the Illinois Committee studying death penalty reform and actively campaigns for police line-up reform. Jesus abolished the death penalty when he said, “Let he who is without sin among you cast the first stone at her.” None of us qualify to cast the stone, pull the trigger, throw the switch, inject the poison…
